Visiting London? Old and New plays you must catch

If you are a theatre lover, then London should definitely be on your list of places to visit! It has one of the most amazing theatre traditions imaginable, and the scenography, and acting standards that you see here are unparalleled! While there are always new plays in the block- which are extremely impressive, there are some which have been playing since the 1950s, and are still hugely popular today! Here are some of the plays, new and old, which you can consider watching!

Old plays

Mousetrap

This is probably the longest-running play in the world and has been active ever since it began since its making in 1957. Based on Agatha Christie’s famous book and play, Three Blind Mice, this was originally written for the royal family!   The play is a whodunnit, and is extremely gripping, engaging and suspenseful! It is almost an institution in itself- a piece of heritage, and is definitely worth a watch! Not only will the plot and scripting leave you stunned, but even the general acting style, the scenography and more will make you feel like you have travelled back in time, and are watching it as it was first done!

The Lion King

This is probably one of the most magnificent productions that one can ever witness. Though tickets are admittedly on the steeper side, it is worth an investment! Based on the same plot as the film, The Lion King, this is one of the most spectacular musicals. The music is fabulous, the scenography is unparalleled, and the acting is superb! It is one of those plays which will stay with you for a very long time, should you have the good fortune to watch it! You will find yourself crying, laughing and even singing along, as you follow Simba on his adventures! This is more than just a play- it is the experience of a lifetime!

New Plays

While these have been going on for a while, here are some new plays on the block, which are ongoing right now, and are worth a watch!

People, Places and Things

Directed by Duncan Macmillan, this is probably one of the most gripping plays that you could watch! The story follows an actress’s struggles, the societal pressures that she faces and how she fights to overcome the circumstances. It will bring tears to your eyes, yet its sardonic humour will make you laugh! It is one of those plays that stay with you for a long time, and will make you think about the world and society! Catch it now! It is worth a watch!

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

This is probably one of the most popular plays in London now! It is a spin-off from the legendary Harry Potter books by JK Rowling, and is in two parts, therefore making it an incredibly long play, spanning 8 hours! However, you can watch them on different days, or if you are adventurous enough, you can watch them in one day too! Though the play text was widely circulated and has been met with mixed reactions, watching it live, and seeing the wondrous scenography, the acting and the world of Harry Potter and Hogwarts all coming alive is a magical experience!

So when are you planning to go?
