With its delicate balance between supernatural mystery, retro-tinged homages to the '80s, and complex development of characters, the cultural phenomenon that is Stranger Things has stolen the hearts of millions.
While the core cast is no doubt enigmatic in their own right, a number of supporting characters have made such an impression that they should be given their very own spin-off series. Included here are some characters that could easily have a show of their own!
Steve Harrington - Steve Harrington, as portrayed by Joe Keery in Stranger Things, has to be one of the most astonishing character developments seen. He was once the stereotypical heartthrob and bad boy of the high school, but then he evolved to be a loveable, heroic character. It was fun seeing his transformation from King Steve into a protective and caring figure for those little kids. A spin-off series focusing on Steve's life after High School would be a great deal of time taken into his transition to adulthood, a career just starting to blossom, and his relationship with other Hawkins locals. The viewership in this case would see more of his growth and experiences.
Dustin Henderson - Dustin Henderson, played by Gaten Matarazzo, has one of those optimistic outlooks that is just impossible to suppress-insightful and true to his friends. He really is just comic relief and quick solutions to many of their problems. A series that focuses on the many adventures Dustin embarks upon traces his life into old age, but especially into his passions of science and knack for finding strange and inexplicable things. This curious nature of his could be furthered by perhaps his own scientific discoveries and make for an interesting and entertaining spin-off.
Nancy Wheeler - Nancy Wheeler, played by Natalia Dyer, has always portrayed a very ambitious and determined journalist in Stranger Things. She is so tenacious and brave in uncovering the truth regarding supernatural events in Hawkins. A spin-off series could be about her life after Hawkins, pursuing big stories, and trying to keep her personal life in check. It could delve into the facts and muckraking of journalism and come out as something thrilling and thought-provoking.
Max Mayfield - Max Mayfield, played by Sadie Sink, is another character whose story could be developed into a series of its own. The struggles of Max from the dark times in her life, and how she always finds herself standing against all odds, make her a very interesting character. A story arc given over to the life journey that Max embarks on from Stranger Things- her family troubles and how she finds her inner peace-would be a fine way to explore the character development of Max.
Jim Hopper - Jim Hopper, played by David Harbour, is the gruff but lovable sheriff of Hawkins. From his checkered past to his desire to protect his town, an apparent origin story of his has been developed piece by piece through the series. Such a spin-off series would explore his life before the events of Stranger Things, as a police officer, having to tackle personal demons, and the making of a man such as Hopper.
There are so many interesting characters present in the world of Stranger Things. If they create a spinoff for these characters and give the audience a deeper understanding of their world, struggles, and growth, it will be awesome!
