The gorgeous valley of Kashmir has always been in the good books of the Bollywood filmmakers.
Kashmir, rightly referred to as the "Paradise on Earth", is a wonderful tourist destination filled with snow-capped mountains, lush green forests, vast grasslands, cascading streams, majestic waterfalls and more. It houses several charming sites namely Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Sonmarg, Doodhpathri, Dal Lake etc. that are highly sought after by the Bollywood filmmakers. If we just look back, would find out a number of 20th-century Bollywood movies that brilliantly captured the sheer elegance of the land. Here, let's have a look at some of the contemporary movies that were shot in various regions of Kashmir.
Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani: Although the plot is set in Manali, the 2013 movie 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' was mostly shot in Kashmir. The snow-capped mountains shown in the movie are from Gulmarg and Pahalgam. It also had some shots from Chandanwari, Aru Valley, Betab Valley etc.
3 idiots: Rajkumar Hirani's '3 idiots' was shot at a relatively unexplored site of Ladakh, Kashmir. The ending scene (where Kareena Kapoor rides her scooty and meets Aamir Khan) was shot at the spectacular Pangong Lake. The white sands, pristine blue water along with the surrounding mountains make the scene a memorable one.
Jab Tak Hai Jaan: The last movie directed by the legendary filmmaker Yash Chopra, 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan' was extensively shot in Ladakh along with various other regions of Kashmir. To be precise, the "Jiya Re" song sequence captured the sheer elegance of Kashmir valley in an amazingway.
Haider: The Vishal Bhardwaj directorial venture 'Haider' wonderfully captured the snowy mountains, vast meadows and cascading lakes of Pahalgam. It was also shot in several other sites of Kashmir such as old Srinagar, Sonmarg, Dal Lake, Naseem Bagh, Nishat Bagh, Anantnag, Mattan etc. Also, the movie brilliantly portrayed the tensed socio-political scenarios of the state.
Highway: Directed by Imtiaz Ali, 'Highway' is a critically acclaimed movie shot in various states of India. It consists of several scenes set amidst the green mountains of the Aru Valley, Kashmir. The movie was also shot in some places of Pahalgam.
Bajrangi Bhaijaan: The Salman Khan starrer superhit movie 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' literally takes the viewers to a virtual trip through the magnificent mountains, gorgeous valleys, dense forests, massive grasslands and wild rivers of Kashmir. It was shot in several sites such as Sonmarg, Attari Wagah Borger, Mandawa Shekhawati region, Nizamuddin Dargah etc.
Raazi: The highly appreciated movie 'Raazi' revolves around a Kashmiri woman (an undercover RAW agent) who marries a Pakistani military officer to get some secret information. The movie superbly captured the picturesque landscapes of places like Srinagar and Pahalgam in Kashmir.
The list also includes movies like 'Mission Kashmir', 'Rockstar', 'Student of the Year', 'Phantom', 'Fitoor', 'Shikara' etc.
