Fans will be disappointed by the absence of these coveted stars in this year’s US Open!
With the 2024 US Open, the final Grand Slam of the year, underway, the field is almost complete, featuring many top-ranked players. However, a few notable names are missing this year due to injuries or personal reasons. This article highlights the key players who are not part of the 2024 US Open lineup.
Rafael Nadal
The 22-time Grand Slam champion and former World No. 1, Rafael Nadal, was initially included in the 2024 US Open entry list but withdrew later due to fitness issues. Persistent injuries throughout the season have fueled speculation about his potential retirement, impacting his ability to compete in major events. Tennis fans around the world were disappointed to learn that Nadal would not be participating in this year's US Open. Currently, he is focused on regaining fitness in hopes of competing in the Laver Cup.
Nick Kyrgios
The temperamental Australian, Nick Kyrgios, will also be absent from the US Open this year. Having last competed in October 2022, he has played only one match since then due to ongoing knee and wrist injuries. Kyrgios's absence is a notable loss for the tournament, as he has been struggling to recover and return to full fitness.

Cameron Norrie
The British No. 2, Cameron Norrie, will be a significant absence in the Men’s Singles draw at the US Open this year. Norrie has been grappling with a forearm injury that has kept him off the court for several weeks. Although he attempted a return to competitive tennis and was initially set to compete in the Cincinnati Open, he was unable to recover in time. His absence is a notable blow to the tournament, as Norrie had been a strong performer on the tour and his participation would have added depth to the field.
Simona Halep
Former World No. 1 Simona Halep will also be a notable absence from the US Open this year. The Romanian has endured a turbulent season marked by injuries and a suspension. Her last appearance was at the Miami Open, where she struggled with her form and was eliminated in the first round. Since then, persistent knee issues have prevented her from returning to competitive play. Halep’s absence is a significant loss for the tournament, as her presence would have added considerable depth and experience to the women’s singles draw. Fans and analysts alike will miss watching the former champion compete on one of tennis's biggest stages.
Markéta Vondroušová
The 2023 Wimbledon champion, Markéta Vondroušová, will also miss the women’s draw at the US Open this year. Vondroušová has endured a challenging season marred by persistent injuries. Her struggles prevented her from defending her Wimbledon title, where she exited in the first round. The Czech player’s absence is a significant blow to the tournament, as her recent Grand Slam victory had established her as a formidable competitor on the women’s tour. Her injury issues have kept her from competing at her best, leaving fans disappointed and the draw lacking one of its recent champions.
Ons Jabeur
Former US Open finalist Ons Jabeur has withdrawn from the tournament due to a shoulder injury. The Tunisian, a top seed and crowd favourite, will be sorely missed. Her absence is a notable loss for the women’s draw, as Jabeur had been a strong contender and fan favourite.
As the US Open is being played in full swing these players will surely be missed by tennis fans as the competition will surely wane without the class of these world-class talents!
