Football is a stylish game, and footballers have a charm of their own. They have money and therefore; they are often seen flaunting the costliest of cars, attires and accessories. 

However, the flaunting is not limited to outside the stadium only. Inside the stadium, on the field; several footballers over the years have flaunted stylish accessories. Some wore them because of medical purposes, whereas some wore to create a style statement. In this feature, we have listed some accessories used by some famous footballers during matches.


Edgar Davids

Hailing from the Netherlands, Edgar Davids was one of the best defensive midfielders in the world during his time. He was a fine player, which made him unique, but there was another thing that made him famous: his glasses. Edgar Davids used to wear sports goggles during matches; something which is common in the game of cricket but not in football. Many believed it was a fashion thing for Davids, but in reality, he started wearing goggles because of medical reasons. 

At the pinnacle of his career, Davids was diagnosed with glaucoma, an eye disease. To prevent eyesight loss, Davids went ahead with the surgery but the surgery forced him to wear those famous special goggles.

Petr Čech

Today’s kids may not know about the heroics of Petr Čech but there was a time, Petr Čech was one of the best goalkeepers in the world. He was known for wearing a rugby helmet because in 2006, while collecting the ball, was hit by the opponent team’s player Steven Hunt. Fell unconscious on the field, Cech suffered a fractured skull but returned to the game. However, doctors advised him to wear a helmet and since then till his retirement, he was seen wearing the helmet. 

David Beckham

In the present era, many players apart from the goalkeepers wear full-sleeve jerseys. However, there was a time no on-field players used to wearfull-sleeve jerseys until David Beckham joined the team of Manchester United. Beckham was and still is a suave personality who knows a lot about fashion. In the late 90s, it was David Beckham who started the trend of wearing full-sleeve jerseys. Today, several players are seen wearing full-sleeve jerseys such as Messi, Ronaldo, Griezmann, Ramos, Pique, Neymar and more.
