Cristiano Ronaldo is good with his right foot whereas Lionel Messi’s left foot is godly. However, in football’s history, we have had several brilliant two-footed players
In football, every player has a firm foot. For some players, it could be his or her right and for some other players, it could be the left one. Even players like Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have a strong foot and a weak foot. However, in football’s history, we have witnessed a few rare players who were two-footed. In short, their right and left were naturally strong.
What is the importance of this article?
It is important to acknowledge the two-footed players because they were special. The fact that their right, as well as left, were strong made their ball control, passing, dribbling and every action simply better. Not to forget, for the unversed souls, two-footed players are also called ambipedal (football technical terminology).
Johann Cruyff, the master of Total Football
Hailing from the Netherlands, Johann Cruyff made the concept of Total Football famous in the world. His two-footed nature made him incredibly fast with the ball because of which, defenders rarely managed to intercept him and his runs. In the 1974 World Cup, he did an incredible manoeuvre with the ball which was later named the Cruyff turn. To many, he is the greatest two-footed player of all time.
Luka Modric is an active player who is good with both feet
The name of Luka Modric may be a surprise to many, but at present, he is the only active player who is simply outstanding with his left as well as the right foot. Indeed, to some extent, his performance has gone down; courtesy of his age. However, in 2022, if we have to put our money on a two-footed player, it is Luka Modric.
Paolo Maldini was a two-footed player who was also a defender
When we think about two-footed players, we usually think of attackers and midfielders. However, Paolo Maldini was a two-footed player who operated as a defender during his long footballing career. Yes, he played as a midfielder at times, but he was known for his defensive skills. His two-footed nature allowed him to steal balls from the attackers easily and launch a surprise attack from the rear.
Last but not the least, Zinedine Zidane, Francesco Totti, Glenn Hoddle and David Luiz are some more great two-footed players.
