The year is 2021 and there is no doubt that women’s football in the past few years has garnered the world’s attention. From better sponsorships and finances to more media coverages, women’s football has created a space in the hearts of the football community. However, they still have a long way to go as a major amount of people around the world are unaware of the legendary players’ and managers’ names from women’s football. For those unversed souls, in this feature; we have compiled of list of the top managers from women’s football.

April Heinrichs- Not merely a brilliant manager but a skilled player, April of the United States of America led her country to the 2004 Olympics, Gold Cup and Algarve Cup. In 2000, the national team won a silver medal at the Olympic Games and in 2003, she led the team to a bronze medal in the World Cup tournament. As a player, April won the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 1991. She was the captain of that team and in 1998; she was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame.

Pia Sundhage- A veteran when it comes to managing football teams, Pia Sundhage has spent 28 years as a manager. Hailing from Sweden, she is a former football player who is currently leading the team of Brazil. From 2008 to 2012, Sundhage was the manager of the United States of America’s football team. She guided the team to two Olympic gold medals and a silver in the World Cup. Later on, she managed her home country and helped Sweden win a bar of Olympic silver in 2016. Sadly, she could not help the team lift the World Cup trophy in 2019.

Chan Yuen Ting- Hailing from Hong Kong, Chan Yuen Ting is the only female football manager in the world to lead a men’s football team. After playing football for a few years, she retired and took the role of an assistant coach with Hong Kong-based clubs Southern District FC and Pegasus FC. In 2015, she accepted the job of managing the club of Eastern Sports Club. At that juncture, she was only 27; the youngest manager in the league to lead a men’s team. That’s not all, as she led the club of Eastern Sports Club to a league title. Under her managerial ship, the team only lost one game out of 15.
