Myths associated with an empty stomach: are they scientific?
With an increasing quantity of information about weight loss, it has become confusing for a normal human being to understand which one is actually scientific and which one is not healthy.
As the number of health issues is increasing, everyone is trying to become conscious of food habits and lifestyles. Someone is visiting a nutritionist, someone is interested to follow lifestyle channels and others are going through google to find suitable healthy habits for them. However, not all the information is scientifically true in today's world. In this article, we will debunk some myths about staying empty stomach. Read on.
Myth: If you regularly perform exercise on an empty stomach, you will lose more amount of muscle.
Fact: This is a partial truth. Generally, people visit the gym early in the morning without having breakfast with the hope of losing more weight. However, this is not an effective way of losing weight. Without sufficient food, you won't be able to survive. Thus, a specific amount of food is a must for the maintenance of your body. For example, without sufficient sugar, your nervous system won't function properly. Scientifically, protein is required for the maintenance of the body along with fat. But, excess fat is not good for your health. In your muscles, excess glucose from food is stored as glycogen. This glycogen is used as a source for f energy when you workout in the gym without having breakfast. So, you don't lose muscle protein while exercising on an empty stomach. You are just losing the carbohydrate resource.
Myth: Running on a trademill without breakfast is the best process to lose weight.
Fact: This is another common notion practiced by many people. However, this is again a partial truth. On an empty stomach, if you perform low-intensity running, it won't be beneficial. The only way to lose some extra weight while on empty stomach is to perform high-intensity running. Only this can burn excess fatty acids stored in your body.
Myth: Practice running on an empty stomach, it will enhance your endurance.
Fact: Scientifically, working out without having breakfast is a bad idea. High endurance exercise should not be done on an empty stomach. The supply of glycogen is crucial for high endurance exercise, as described earlier. You must discuss with your trainer regarding fat metabolism in your body. Daily training with an empty stomach may lead to lethal consequences. So do not try this.
After waking up in the morning, you can consume chia seeds before starting the exercise, and do not forget to keep a protein shake during exercise.
