As expected, the record is held by Caribbean big-hitter Chris Gayle, who features multiple times in the list of batsmen with the most sixes in a single IPL season
The Indian Premier League is known for its pacey nature, and therefore, a few sixes are hit in almost every over, starting from the first to the death. Since 2008, some players have scripted history by hitting the maximum number of sixes in a single season. In the following paragraphs, let us visit some players with a maximum of sixes in a single season.
The record for the most number of sixes hit by a batsman in one edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is held by Chris Gayle, who smacked 59 sixes for Royal Challengers Bangalore in Indian Premier League 2012. He followed it up with another brilliant season for the franchise next year when he hit 51 sixes.
The only other player to hit more than 50 sixes in a single IPL season is Andre Russell, who scored as many as 52 maximums in the 2019 edition of the Indian Premier League. The Kolkata Knight Riders all-rounder received the most valuable player award in the 2019 season, as he was absolutely on fire with both bat and ball.

Next on the list is Chris Gayle again, who hit 44 sixes for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2011. The batsman was in a rich vein of form for the Royal Challengers Bangalore from 2011 to 2013.
Even though he was not at his brutal best, he was certainly on song in the 2015 edition as well when he hit 38 sixes for the Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise. It is a shame that despite delivering for Bangalore for a long time, the team did not show their faith in him and released him as soon as they began to sense a dip in his form.
Next on the list is Virat Kohli, who also hit 38 sixes in IPL 2016. This was the season when he was extremely dominant and missed 1000 runs in a single IPL season by a whisker.
In the first edition of the Indian Premier League, SanathJayasuriya was the most prolific six-hitter. The Mumbai Indians batsman sent the ball over the ropes on 31 occasions. In the second edition of the IPL, Adam Gilchrist, playing for Deccan Chargers, struck 29 sixes.

In IPL 2010, Robin Uthappa was the batsman with the most sixes for Royal Challengers Bangalore as he hit 27 balls over the boundary ropes. From the next year onwards, Chris Gayle took over.
In 2015, when a chunk of the IPL was played in the UAE, Glenn Maxwell shone with 36 sixes for Kings XI Punjab. In the 202 edition of the IPL, Ishan Kishan was the player with most sixes as he clubbed the ball over the ropes on 30 occasions.
In 2021, Chennai’s Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 23 sixes each. The following year, Jos Butler lit up the tournament with 45 sixes while playing for Rajasthan Royals. Finally, last year, it was once again Faf’s year as he hit 36 sixes.
Moving on to the 2024 edition, which is in progress right now, Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Klassen is leading the race (as of April 2) with 17 sixes in three innings.
