The inclined Radillon section at Spa tests the mettle of every F1 racer. However, Spa is not the only F1 track with massive elevation changes.

As of now, Formula One visits 23 tracks in a year located in different countries. Therefore, the tracks are built in accordance with the geographical features of those countries. For example, India’s BIC is on a flat land and thus, the track is also flat. However, there are some tracks in F1 that are full of elevation changes. In this article, we have listed the top Formula One tracks with maximum elevation changes.

What is the importance of this article?

In Formula One, every minor element is of utmost importance. For example, climbing a steep or climbing down a city street is an ordinary thing for regular citizens. However, for an F1 racer, it is not an ordinary thing because an inclined steep or sudden dip changes the performance of the car and has tremendous effects on his or her body. In short, tracks with most elevation changes are complicated compared to flat tracks.

NürburgringNordschleife, Germany

There are several mountain-based Formula One tracks in the world, but nothing beats the elevation changes of Germany’s NürburgringNordschleife. A portion of the track has a sudden inclination from 320 metres above sea level to 620 metres above sea level. After reaching the 620 metres spot, the track features a dive.

Dangerous Monaco

To us, the Monaco Grand Prix has always been a boring Grand Prix because of how narrow it is, along with too many twisties and chicanes. However, it is a dangerous track because, irrespective of being narrow, drivers push themselves to a great extent. The carnival-like Grand Prix has a climb of 89.5 metres at around turn four.

Eau Rouge at Spa

As mentioned in the strapline, the Eau Rouge or Radillon section at Spa is a dangerous climb that tests the mettle of every racer. However, the maximum inclination is faced by F1 drivers where the Kemmel Straight ends, i.e., at turn seven. From the starting point to turn seven, the drivers climb to an elevation of 102.2 metres.

63.3 metres in Austria

Last but not the least, at the Spielberg track in Austria, racers climb a height of 63.3 metres after turn two from the starting grid, which is at an elevation of 721.4 metres above sea level.
