Euro 2024: A Look at the Greatest Hat-tricks From Cristiano Ronaldo For Portugal

Cristiano Ronaldo’s hat-trick’s a sight to behold for fans of the sport!

Cristiano Ronaldo is undoubtedly one of the greatest goal-scorers in football history. The prolific Portuguese striker has scored over 750 goals in his club career and more than 100 at the international level, with no signs of stopping. Remarkably, he has become even more effective with age, netting more than half of his career hat-tricks since turning 30 in 2015. Here’s a look at some of his most unforgettable hat-tricks for both club and country in his phenomenal career…

Portugal vs Lithuania (2019)

In September 2019, Ronaldo scored four goals for Portugal in a 5-1 away win against Lithuania in a Euro 2020 qualifier. He followed this up in November with another hat-trick in a 6-0 victory at home against the same team. In the home match, Cristiano opened the scoring with a penalty, slotting it straight down the middle. He made it 2-0 with a brilliant curler into the corner from outside the box after Lithuania lost the ball in their own half. Ronaldo completed his hat-trick with a low finish late in the game, securing the sixth goal.

Portugal vs Armenia (2015)

Cristiano Ronaldo ended the 2014/15 season with consecutive hat-tricks for Real Madrid, then notched another treble for Portugal against Armenia in June. He opened the scoring with a penalty, then capitalised on the hesitation between the Armenian goalkeeper and a defender to score his second. Ronaldo secured a 3-2 victory with a powerful right-footed shot into the top corner just before the hour mark, completing his hat-trick and continuing his remarkable scoring streak.

Northern Ireland vs Portugal (2013)

In an October 2016 World Cup qualifier against Andorra, Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring just over a minute in with a volley from a corner. A glancing header made it 2-0 within four minutes. In the second half, Ronaldo added two more with first-time finishes, contributing to Portugal's 6-0 victory. This match marked the first time he scored four goals in an international game, displaying his exceptional talent and scoring ability on the world stage.

Portugal vs Switzerland (2019)

Three years after helping Portugal win Euro 2016, Cristiano Ronaldo was crucial in their victory in the inaugural UEFA Nations League. In the semi-finals against Switzerland, Ronaldo scored a hat-trick, featuring a brilliant free-kick and an impressive solo effort, propelling Portugal to the final. There, Fernando Santos' team defeated the Netherlands to secure the trophy, with Ronaldo's exceptional performance once again proving vital to his country's success.

Sweden vs Portugal (2013)

In 2022, Cristiano Ronaldo became the first footballer in men's history to score in five World Cup editions. However, Portugal's spot in the 2014 tournament was uncertain. During a play-off against Sweden and Zlatan Ibrahimovic in November 2013, Ronaldo scored a stunning hat-trick. He netted two superb finishes with his left foot and another with his right from a tight angle after rounding the goalkeeper. His performance helped Portugal come from behind to secure a 3-2 win (4-2 on aggregate), clinching their place in Brazil in 2014.

Portugal vs Spain (2018)

Portugal and Spain delivered a World Cup classic in the group stages of Russia 2018, drawing 3-3 in an exhilarating match in Sochi. Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring for Portugal with an early penalty, then made it 2-1 after a David de Gea error. With Spain leading 3-2, Ronaldo equalised with a spectacular free-kick in the final two minutes.

While in this Euro Cup edition, Ronaldo hasn’t scored a hattrick yet, but he might end up with one by the end of the tournament!
