Costliest overs in T20I cricket history? Here are the top 5!

It's incredible how T20 internationals can be a real adrenaline rush!

The popularity of T20 cricket is on the rise, and with it, scoring more runs is becoming easier. This is partly due to the use of drop-in pitches and shorter boundaries. Notably, two instances in international T20 matches saw a batsman score an impressive 36 runs in a single over! Check out the list to see how many times batsmen have pulled off impressive scores in a single over in T20 international cricket and discover who these power hitters are!

India against England, 36 runs (2007)

India and England faced off in the 25th match of the inaugural T20 World Cup 2007 in Durban, marking a historic moment in T20I cricket. The unforgettable over bowled by Stuart Broad witnessed a total of 36 runs being scored, making it the most famous over in T20I history. Yuvraj Singh achieved a remarkable feat by hitting six sixes in that over, completely dismantling Broad's bowling. This extraordinary over by Yuvraj remains the most expensive in T20 cricket history.

West Indies against Sri Lanka, 36 runs (2021)

In 2021, the dynamic Kieron Pollard from the West Indies smashed an impressive 36 runs in just six balls during an over by Akila Dhananjaya in a match against Sri Lanka. This incredible performance played a key role in the West Indies winning the match in just 13.1 overs. Pollard secured the distinction of becoming the second batsman to achieve this feat in a T20 international.

New Zealand against India, 34 runs (2020)

In 2020, India faced New Zealand in a T20 international at Mount Maunganui. New Zealand was given the target of 164 runs to win. Indian bowlers dominated early, reducing the hosts to 17/3 in just 3.2 overs. The partnership between Tim Seifert and Ross Taylor started rebuilding, and by the 10th over, they needed 100 runs to win. Seifert and Taylor unleashed an assault on Shivam Dube, hitting 4 sixes and 2 fours (including one off a no-ball) in an over that went for 34 runs. This remarkable performance brought the required runs down to 66 from 60 balls. However, India managed to hold on and won the match by 7 runs.

Zimbabwe against Bangladesh, 34 runs (2022)

In the 15th over of the third T20 match in Harare, Bangladeshi bowler Nasum Ahmed had a tough encounter with Ryan Burl. Ryan Burl made a significant impact, scoring 34 runs in Nasum Ahmed's over. Burl kicked off with four consecutive sixes in the first four balls, followed by a four and another six on the next two balls. Nasum Ahmed's over became the most expensive among Bangladeshi bowlers in T20 history, placing his name in the record books!

South Africa against England, 32 run (2016)

In a high-scoring encounter during the ICC World Twenty20 competition on March 18, 2016, in Mumbai, England faced South Africa. In the 18th over, bowled by Chris Jordan, South African batsman J.P. Duminy made a significant impact, hitting four sixes and two fours, resulting in 32 runs conceded in that over. The match turned into an exciting showdown, marked by intense competition and standout performances from both sides.

Modern-day T20 international cricket is a game of fine margins. Nail-biting moments in a single over can either make the batting team feel invincible or leave the bowling side feeling low. A bowler slipping up can totally flip the game. And let's not forget the league stage drama—teams hustling for that run rate boost, swinging at every ball. No doubt, it's an absolute blast for cricket fans!
