Remember the game chase tag from our childhood days? You may not be aware, but the World Chase Tag is a legitimate competition of chase tag
As a kid, most of us have played the game of chase tag. You run and tag a player out and once that player is out, he or she becomes the chaser, whereas you become the evader. We have played this game throughout our childhood, but do you know that there is a legitimate chase tag championship in the world? Known as World Chase Tag, the competition was founded in 2011 and in the following paragraphs; we have compiled as much information as possible about the tournament.
In 2011, two brothers named Christian and Damien Devaux founded the World Chase Tag association. Christian used to play chase tag regularly with his child and one fine morning, he decided to make the game a legitimate professional sport. Therefore, Christian and his brother Damien together formed the association. Unlike other professional sports where a country sends a national team; in the World Chase Tag, individual teams from various countries take part. As of 2022, 40 teams from various countries are a part of the World Chase Tag. The slogan of the tournament is ‘Keep Chasing and Don’t Get Caught’.
To begin with, in a game, two teams (six players in each) take on each other. The chase takes place in a 12-metre square called The Quad that is filled with many obstacles. A single game comprises 16 rounds, and each round is of 20 seconds. One player enters The Quad as a chaser, whereas another player enters the arena as an evader. The chaser must tag the evader with his/her hand to score a point, whereas the evader must not get touched by the chaser to score a point.
While the World Chase Tag was formed in 2011, the association hosted its first championship tournament in 2018 with merely four teams. Since 2018, World Chase Tag has had four world championships along with one European championship and one USA championship. So far, a team named Marrero Gang has won the maximum number of titles (three times). Last but not the least, some other famous teams are Team Blacklist, Samurai, UGen and GNF.
