Winning a match for any team is a colossal feat. However, winning with an enormous margin goes down in history
There’s not an inch of doubt that the Football World Cup is the biggest sporting action on earth. In several places, it is not considered a sporting event but a festival that is collectively celebrated by millions of people around the planet. The players work exceptionally hard and try to lift the trophy. After all, it is the most coveted prize that one can touch. Off the pitch, the players and the teams share mutual love and respect for each other. On the pitch for those 90 minutes, the game turns into war.
The teams give their best to score and overthrow their rival and, in the process to do so, records are shattered as the score line turns humiliating for the rival team.
Let’s rewind to some of the biggest football wins in the World Cup history.
Yugoslavia vs. Zaire
In 1974, Zaire (now acknowledged as the Democratic Republic of Congo) had to suffer the wrath of the Yugoslavia national football team as the latter went onto score nine goals against Zaire. Zaire were left with a red face as Yugoslavia created a history in the World Cup. The last score was Yugoslavia 9-0 Zaire.
Hungary vs. El Salvador
In the World Cup of 1982, the men’s national football team of Hungary mercilessly massacred the team from El Salvador as they scored 10 goals. They played the match on June 15 at the Nuevo Estadio in Spain. The match ended with a final score of 10-1.
USA vs. Thailand
The US women’s national football team is known for their prowess as they have lifted the prestigious trophy on several occasions. They have produced enough of remembrances, but this one remains the best of all. In 2019, the women from US embarrassed the women from Thailand with 13 goals and maintained a clean sheet.
Germany vs. Argentina
The women's national football team of Germany is as barbarous as the men’s team. In fact, we can say that they are more brutal as the German women crushed the girls from Argentina by scoring 11 goals in the 2007 World Cup.
Germany vs. Ivory Coast
Another one from the powerhouse Germany, this time the women from Ivory Coast became their prey as the German women scored 10 goals against them in the 2015 World Cup. Out of 10, five were recorded in only 35 minutes.
