The UNESCO City of Gastronomy you can visit

Known for their mouthwatering food, it is time you travelled for food

Giving importance to not just the music, art, dance, and the world's cultures, UNESCO is also doing a lot to preserve the food culture across the globe. The vast lands, a unique mix of prevalent cultures, traditions, and beautiful people, bring a humongous spread of delicacies that is difficult to ignore. Considering that, UNESCO under its wider Creative Cities Network founded UNESCO's City of Gastronomy. There are 36 cities of gastronomy, so here is the list of cities that you can relish dishes at and visit.

Afyonkarahisar

A city in western Turkey, Afyonkarahisar is situated in the mountainous countryside inland along the Akarçay River. While the city is known for its hot springs and spas, Afyonkarahisar is also famous for the ancient cuisine that got it into the City of Gastronomy. One must try sucuk - a spicy beef sausage, ağzaçık or bükme - cheese stuffed pastry or lentils, keşkek - boiled wheat and chickpeas stewed with meat, local cream kaymak that is eaten with honey, with a bread pudding ekmekkadayıf, or with pumpkin simmered in syrup. One of the famous places that serve it is best is Ikbal restaurants.

Belém

A Brazilian city, Belém is the capital and largest city of Pará. The city is known for being the gateway to the Amazon River, but importantly it is known for its local culture and delicacies. Belém has been part of the UNESCO city of gastronomy since 2015. One can try the Cupuaçu that comes from the Cupuaçu tree. Its pulp is extracted to make juices, candies, jellies, liquors, and ice cream. Açaí is a palm tree with a long, thin stem, purple in color, and tastes delicious. Other specialties are a traditional local delicacy - Freshwater crab, and Maniçoba.

Mérida

The capital of Yucatán, Mérida is famous for its Yucatán food. The food is famous for its own unique style and is absolutely different from regular Mexican food. The food has influences from the local Mayan cuisine, Caribbean, Mexican, European, and Middle Eastern foods. The elements often used in Yucatán cuisine are tropical fruits such as coconut, pineapple, plum, tamarind, and mamey.
