They say behind every successful man there is a woman, in this case, there was an honest and reliable relationship nurtured deeply by both Sudha and Narayan Murthy.
Sudha and Narayan Murthy’s love story is such an inspiring tale of love. Sudha was an intelligent, extrovert, and ambitious computer scientist, and Narayan was a shy, introverted man dreaming to make it big in the world. They were first introduced by mutual friend Prasanna (who is now global head at Wipro) in Pune. So, who did the opposites attract, let us find out?
The first date
Narayan invited Sudha and her friends for dinner but as she was the only girl in the group, she firmly refused, after much persistence, she agreed to meet him at Green Fields Hotel at 7:30 PM. Over time they became very good friends who shared their mutual love for books. Their conversations were not conventionally romantic. And it was then Narayan, realized that he has found his soulmate and popped the question over dinner. Sudha thought it over and didn’t answer right away. She came back and discussed the proposal with her parents and troubles ensued.
Meeting the parents
They say the first impression is what makes or breaks a relationship but, in this case, the first impression didn’t leave a favourable impact. He was supposed to reach at 10 AM but was stuck in a jam and was about two hours late. That left Sudha’s father agitated who snidely remarked that how can one trust such a person who is late. He also was not convinced much due to Narayan’s dwindling career and income but Sudha’s mother was impressed by the lad from Karnataka. Sudha, at that time, was also in love with Narayan and wanted to marry him.
Courtship and marriage
So, they kept on dating for three years, till Narayan found his standing in his career which is when he started his own software company. So, when in 1977, he became General Manager at Patni computers he got married to Sudha before flying to the US for a project. Sudha supported Narayan Murthy in his dreams and even sacrificed her own career in the process. That is the reason why Narayan Murthy remarked that she is what is responsible for his success.
