Love them or hate them, you can’t ignore them. From “The Beatles” to” BTS”, boybands have dominated the music charts and alsothe hearts of people.
Boybands have dominated the music scenes from the very early times but the concept of boybands has evolved with the era and each era has its own favourites. For example, the 60s belonged to Jackson 5 and The Beatles, the 70s and the 80s belonged to Menudo and New Kids on the Block. The 90s however was without a doubt the golden age for boybands as we had the chart-topping groups such as NSYNC, Westlife, Boyz II Men, Boyzone, and Backstreet Boys. Jonas Brothers and One Direction took the craze for boybands a bit further in the 2010s and nowadays BTS is ruling the roost. Here are some fun and heart-warming facts about famous boybands that you might not know.
There was a cartoon show on Saturday morning about Jackson 5
ABC network broadcasted “The Jackson 5ive” every Saturday morning between 1971 to 1972. The cartoon featured the music of Tito, Jermaine, Michael, Jackie, and Marlon even though the animated characters were not voiceover by the real artists. The cartoon is known for being a pioneer who didn’t succumb to stereotyping and cheap gags.
The Backstreet Boys are the most successful boy group in the history of music
Yes, you guessed it wrong, not “The Beatles” but “The Backstreet Boys” are the most sold-out artists of all time. They sold out about 130 million records and their first nine albums made it to the top of Billboard charts.
Have you heard of the band named Menudo?
You might not have heard the name of the famous Puerto Rican boyband but you might know the names of some of its members. The boyband went through several iterations and had about 39 members before calling it quits in the year 2009. The reason behind it was that they wanted to keep the members of the group below the age of sixteen and as soon as members at the big 16, they were replaced by younger members. Famous solo artists such as Ricky Martin and Marc Anthony were part of the line-up at one point in time.
BTS is the first K-Pop group to hit the number one spot on the Billboards
As traditionally boybands were dominated by English-speaking bands, BTS transcended the barrier of language and hit the number one spot on the Billboard with “Life goes on” which is sung in their native tongue Korean.
