A part of Central Asian countries, it is a marvel to visit

Tajikistan is a landlocked country in Central Asia, sharing borders with Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and China. Just like the other states in Central Asia, Tajikistan is home to several ancient cultures and faiths that built the country. The unique aspect of Tajikistan is that mountains cover more than 90 per cent of the country and are the smallest nation in Central Asia by area. So if you are planning your next trip to Tajikistan, here are the places you must visit.

Dushanbe

The capital and largest city of Tajikistan, Dushanbe, is known for its parks which are the main sights of the city. These include Victory Park, Rudaki Park, the Tajikistan National Museum, the Dushanbe Flagpole, and the Tajikistan National Museum of Antiquities. The capital is also known for its fresh produce like vegetables, fresh fruits, and dried fruits that can be easily found in the Mehrgon Bazar. As well, do not miss local home-cooked cuisines, especially the famous Qurutob, Tajikistan’s national dish. Other places to visit in Dushanbe are Hissar Fortress which is a palace of the ancient Bukhara Emirate, Wall of Great Tajik Writers comprising statues of famous novelists, poets, playwrights of Tajikistan.

Iskanderkul

Iskanderkul Lake is an excellent place for outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, and swimming. It is sandwiched between the beautiful Fann Mountains and is one of the largest glacial lakes in northwest Tajikistan. A mountain lake glacial is situated at an altitude of 2,195 meters in the Fann Mountains. A popular tourist destination, Iskanderkul, is triangular in shape. What makes the lake even more beautiful is the crystal-clear turquoise waters. The lake is also popular for it houses a variety of birds and has been designated as a nature reserve. One can find rivers, water meadows, broad-leaved and juniper forests, mountain shrubland, and sub-alpine meadows around this area.

Khujand

The second-largest city of Tajikistan, Khujand, is historic as it was founded in the VII-VI centuries BC. In the current scenario, Khujand is the centre of industrial, scientific, and cultural developments. When in the city, one must pay a visit to Khujand Fortress and the regional history museum to get a deep insight into the city’s history.

Karakul Lake

Yet another natural water formation one must pay a visit to. From the clear blue skies clear waters to the cool breeze, a lake is a perfect place to spend a picnic.

Other places to visit in Tajikistan are Pamir Highway, The Pamir Mountains, Jisev Valley, Wakhan Valley, Murghab, and Khorog.
