Five Eco-Friendly Home-Cleaning Essential for the Season

With sustainability the trending word in the parlance of environment, living, and health, we extend its use and relevance in cleaning and sanitising

Sustainability is not restricted to wardrobe and farming. It encompasses every trivial aspect of life. With the increase in harsh chemicals drained to aquatic bodies, it is difficult to ignore the crucial role sustainable household cleaning products play towards a greener planet. An array of eco-friendly products is on the rise replacing the synthetic foaming solutions that do very little to health and environment. Quite a few commercial products are identified to cause allergies by releasing a ton of toxins.

Turns out that these products suitable for seasonal deep-cleaning of the house are also pocket-friendly.  These ingredients could be easily brought from the market, and without much ado smoothly incorporated into home-cleaning rituals. At the end of rigorous sanitising rituals, you are left with a refreshing aura with the corners and surfaces literally sparkling.  Let’s take a quick look!

Lemon Essential Oil for the Bacteria and Fungi

Essential oils as an eco-friendly cleaning formula are a different cleaning experience altogether. Not merely cleans the rooms but improves your mood and mental health by leaps and bounds. The onset of monsoon is not without the growth of bacteria and fungi in the overlooked corners of your house. The antimicrobial properties of lemon oil are a saviour. This all-purpose cleaning ingredient requires a few drops of white vinegar, tea tree essential oil, and distilled water to work its charm. You can store it in a bottle to use as a disinfectant spray for as many times as you may need. Spraying on fresh laundry, into the air, and stubborn streaks and stinks. Shake the bottle every time before use to blend all the ingredients uniformly.

The Master of All Trades, Baking Soda

Baking soda is the go-to option for stains, dirty mattresses, pests, grimy surfaces, stinking kitchen countertops, unused ovens and the perils of it, or even unpolished brass. From daily use to occasional splurge prior to parties, you better not do it without baking soda.  The process of working with baking soda is a no-brainer. Spray into the sponge and go for a thorough rub-down.

Acetone, For the Expensive Marble Tops

You may have fussed about the marble tops a great deal but acetone is indeed the one-stop solution. Acetone also looks after the ceramics. Use acetone with a sponge or rag and rub. If you are looking for more aggressive solutions, pour some nail polish remover into acetone and polish the tops. For stickier and oil-based stains, baking soda with acetone works wonders. A liberal application of acetone on the grungiest of messes saves you from exorbitant, chemical-based solutions.

Kosher Salt for Taps and Sinks

We put a lot of creative thinking into designing our homes, and taps and sinks are an indispensable part of the design. Kosher salt is an iodine-free alternative—this distinctive aspect differentiates it from regular salts. Kosher salt is used for cleaning the fridge, freeing the surfaces of nagging coffee stains and watermarks, deep cleaning ovens and stoves, and polishing brassware. You can add a pinch of vinegar or lemon juice for a more effective and rigorous round of cleaning.

Olive Oil, A Kitchen Polishing Essential

Olive oil is an organic oil and the extent of its use in home cleaning is truly remarkable. For furniture, wood surfaces, steel, brass, leather, and cast iron pots, olive oil cleans in a way to leave a lustre and shine. Squeeze some lemon juice into olive oil, pour a small amount on a soft cloth, and rub the tops in circular motions.
