While Aamir Khan is mostly known for his blockbuster movies, these are some of his underrated performances you should also check out.

Aamir Khan, a name that strikes in our mind whenever we hear the word ‘perfectionist’. Aside from having a massive stardom across the world, he is also a brilliant actor who knows his craft very well and loves to do experiment in each of his films. He started his acting journey as a child actor in the 1973 film ‘Yaadon Ki Baaraat’ and later, got his first lead role in the 1988 film ‘Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak’. While superhit movies like ‘Dil’, ‘Sarfarosh’, ‘Lagaan’, ‘3 idiots’, ‘PK’ etc. are known as his most notable works, Khan has also appeared in some incredible movies which remain underrated.

Raakh (1989)

‘Raakh’, being the second film of Aamir Khan, established the fact that he is more of an actor than a star. In this neo-noir crime thriller directed by Aditya Bhattacharya, Aamir played the role of an angry young man who seeks revenge as his lady love is raped and killed. With the tough look and brilliant body language, he effortlessly pulled off the character’s intensity and thirst for vengeance on screen.

1947: Earth (1999)

This Deepa Mehta directorial venture showed Aamir Khan as a completely new avatar and is considered as one of his finest performances till date. In this period drama, Aamir played the role of an ice-candy man who falls in love with a lady and becomes violent after finding out that she is in love with someone else. The film is a masterpiece and Aamir’s performance in this film brought him a lot of appreciation from both the critics and audience.

Dhobi Ghat (2010)

Directed by Kiran Rao, this beautiful movie tells the story of four people (who live in Mumbai) and how their lives intersect with each other’s at the end. Aamir Khan played the role of an artist and stunned each and everyone with his subtle portrayal of the character. While the film flopped at the box office, it is known as one of the most thought-provoking offbeat movies in Bollywood.

Talaash (2012)

The most misunderstood film in Aamir Khan’s career, ‘Talaash’ showed Aamir as a strong police inspector who is on an investigation of a mysterious murder case. From dealing with the loss of his son to solving the murder mystery, the character has several layers and he did full justice to the role. The way Aamir portrayed each subtle emotion of the character on screen, is beyond any words and it shows how gem of an actor he is!
