Sweet Treats That Filled The Childhood of Every 90s Kid With Joy

Here’s going down the memory lane to recollect some sweet and sour childhood memories with popular candies of those times.

When there were no video games and mobile phones, 90s kid used to crowd in playgrounds playing all sorts of sports with whatever they had. Not fast-food chains, candies from the local kirana store filled their childhood with bitter-sweet memories. Most of these lozenges are no longer found in the coloured jars of that small shop by the corner of the lane by they continue to part of our fond remembrance.

90s kids have been fortunate enough to taste sugar and spice and everything nice at prices a 21st C kid would never believe. Here’s going down the memory lane to recollect some sweet and sour childhood memories.

Kismi

A treat for every elaichi lover, Kismi with its bright red packaging was one thing that could be used to cheer up every kid. The best part is the toffee was worth just 25paise when it came to market. Kismi is still available now in rose milk, rajbhog flavours!

Poppins

The multicolour candy was like happiness packed in a tube. Eat one, share one. Choose your colour and pass among your classmates. Rub it in your tongue and flash your tongue to let your friends know which colour you have.

Orange candy

How can we forget those sweet orange and kala-khatta candy that used to be available at every traffic signal? Travel companion of most 90s kid, the sweet and savoury flavour also helped us relieve motion sickness while commuting through bus or train.

Big Babol

Nothing could stop us from buying this pink bubble gum with a fruity flavour even when our parents dreaded that the gum could cause chocking. For 21st C kid, the gum is to get rid of bad breath or for a chiselled jawline, big babol was more than that. Blowing bubble with the gum, the bigger the merrier was what made it more interesting.

Swad

The official 50 paise and 1 Rupee of the nineties. Swad candies had entered the market not just to stay but to conquer. These Digestive Drops made a place in the pockets of both kids and parents.

Ice Pepsee

Come summer and the ring of street hawkers selling chilled flavoured tube would take us with joy. Kids would crowd to have a bite of the orange, cola, mango flavoured popsicle that would come priced for just Rupee 1.

Jelly Cups

“More wobbling and less gobbling”, these colourful jelly cups are no longer seen but was one the best things about childhood. The trick was to gobble one cup at a go without choking. One cup a day kept the kid content and gay.
