Shankar is a Tamil director whose name is synonymous with making big-budget movies with unique stories. His style of song picturization is also very different, for example, a song from his movie Jeans that featured Aishwarya Rai was shot in 7 wonders in the world. Indian featured Kamal Haasan, Manisha Koirala, Urmila Matondkar, Sukanya, and Gaundamani in pivotal roles. Kamal Haasan plays a double role, first an INA veteran who fought for the freedom of the country and second his corrupt son. The older Kamal Haasan takes up the disguise of a vigilante after his daughter loses her life because of corrupt officials. After becoming a vigilante, the character of Kamal Haasan starts killing the corrupt officers to make India a corruption-free country and doesn't hesitate to kill his own son when he becomes a corrupt officer. Kamal Haasan won a National Award for the movie and a sequel is being made titled Indian 2 which will release in 2023.
Sivaji: The Boss featured Rajnikanth as an NRI named Sivaji who comes back to India and wants to spend money he earned abroad to open hospitals and colleges for the poor people who can’t otherwise afford them. But the corrupt officials and businessmen come in his way and now Sivaji has to go through all the obstacles to make his dream come true. It had Shreya Saran as the female lead. The movie was a big hit in the South when released and gave S. Shankar the resources to make his dream movie Enthiran (Robot in Hindi) later.
2.0 is the sequel to S. Shankar’s 2010 movie Enthiran (Robot) and featured Rajinikanth reprising his role as Dr. Vaseegaran, a robotics scientist, and Akshay Kumar as the main antagonist. Made with a budget of 500 crores, it was the most expensive Indian movie at the time of its release. It continues the story of Vasikaran who dismantled Chitti in the first part but now he has to bring back Chitti to fight the negative aura of deceased ornithologist Pakshi Rajan played by Akshay Kumar who committed suicide after his plea to save birds and lower the number of mobile towers as it harms and kills birds but nobody cares about his plea. Now he has come back with superhuman powers and now it’s all up to Chitti to stop Pakshi Rajan. Released in many languages including Hindi, the movie was a big hit.
