Amazing artworks from the north east!

The North East has a vibrant culture and an impressive array of art that represents it. And arts and culture are influenced by a range of events that have taken place over the years, from armed conflicts to natural disasters to the ongoing fight against ingrained prejudices. Here are seven films from the region that speak for themselves and capture the region's uniqueness.

Village Rockstars

Village Rockstars is an 80-minute Assamese drama directed by Rima Das. Das, a self-taught artist, shot the film almost single-handedly on a small budget. He did everything but a star in film: wrote the screenplay, directed, filmed, edited and produced. After premiering the film  at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2017, Village Rockstars won Best Indian Film and two other awards at the Mumbai Film Festival. It was shown at numerous national and international film festivals. Won the prestigious Golden Elephant for Best Director and so on. The film is a rare gem in its portrayal of the devastation caused by floods every year in Assam and how people still dare to dream in the midst of the annual calamity.

Pahuna

Produced by Priyanka Chopra Purple Pebble Pictures' in-house production, Pahuna  became Sikkim's first  feature film for the Indian market to be shot entirely in Sikkim with an unknown local cast of  actors, written and performed entirely in Nepali.The children's film, directed by first-time director Paakhi A Tyrewal, received a standing ovation at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival.

Pahuna is a film about three Nepalese children who are separated from their parents upon entering the Indian state of Sikkim, Nepal. After being separated, they follow the mob and end up in Sikkim. The film follows their journey through a new land that only survived thanks to the kindness of the mountain people and their determination to protect each other.

Mission China

Mission China is an Assamese language action drama film directed by Zubeen Garg and produced by Garima Saikia Garg under I Creation Productions. Mission China is  considered  a milestone in the history of Assamese cinema in terms of budget and box office. Despite a weak story, Mission China had sales of Rs 39.97 lakh on the  first day of release. Mission China is the first Assamese film to give Bollywood films a hard time in the last two decades.
