Hamleys is a British company that has a chain of toy stores across the globe. They are famous for producing action figures of famous superheroes from both DC and Marvel comics. Famous Indian businessman Mukesh, owner of the Reliance group of companies acquired Hamleys for $88.5 million according to ET. You must be thinking why Mukesh Ambani purchased a toy company but the business of toys and action figures is very big internationally unlike India and Hamleys has 167 stores in 18 countries. By acquiring Hamleys, Mukesh Ambani now has a presence in all these 18 countries which is not a small thing by any means.
Jaguar and Land Rover are two of the world’s premium SUV car companies of Jaguar Land Rover, a British company and it’s acquired by Ratan Tata, the owner of Tata Group of Companies in 2008 for $2.3 billion from Ford, according to Tata’s official website. Before this Ratan Tata also bought the famous British tea brand Tetley in 2000. No other Indian businessman owns as many international brands as Ratan Tata. Jaguar Land Rover celebrated ten years of partnership with Tata in 2018. The sale of Jaguar Land Rover increased from 200,000 to more than 600,000 units per year in these ten years.
Royal Enfield is the oldest global motorcycle brand in continuous production. It first started production in 1901 by a British Manufacturing Company, The Enfield Cycle Company of Redditch. The history of Royal Enfield becoming an Indian company is very interesting. After Independence, the Indian government partnered with Royal Enfield Bullet for buying motorcycles for the army to patrol in border areas. In 1955, Redditch partnered with Madras Motors to assemble and formed Enfield India. It’s now totally owned by the Indian company Eicher Motors from 1994. Its production center is Chennai and Royal Enfield is very popular among bike lovers, especially those who go on long bike trips.
