One of the most interesting and surprising things from the North-East is that the most sought and in-demand Golden silk is found only in Assam, a state from the North-East region. You can’t get golden silk from any other place in the whole world. MugaPaat is its local name and it’s taken from a silkworm known as Antheraeaassamensis silkworm which is found only in Assam from the whole planet. This silk is famous for its smooth and shiny texture and it’s one of the major sources of revenue for Assam.
The Wettest Place on Earth
Another interesting thing about North-East is that the wettest place on earth is located in Meghalaya, a state from the North-East reason of India and the name of the place is Mawsnryam.
The wettest place on earth is not somewhere in the forests of the Amazon or any place in Europe, but it’s located in the Indian state of Meghalaya Earlier it was thought to be Cherapunji from Meghalaya, but actually, it’s Mawsnryam from Meghalaya only and it’s close to Cherapunji.
Mawsynram in Meghalaya is apparently the wettest place in the world since it gets the maximum average rainfall of nearly around 12,000 millimeters making it the wettest place on our planet.
Our Planet’s Smallest and Largest River Islands Are Located Here
It’s quite interesting that the smallest and the largest River islands both are located in Assam, North-East India.
Assam is also known as the gateway of the North-East of India as to go to any part or state in North-East India, one has to cross Assam first. One of the most amazing facts about Assam is that it’s the home to the both smallest and largest River Islands in the whole world. The smallest island is known as Umananda which is located on the Brahmaputra River near Guwahati, the commercial capital of Assam and the Biggest River Island is Majuli also situated amid the mighty Brahmaputra River. One more interesting trivia is that the Brahmaputra is the only river in India with a male name and the rest all have female names.
