Fashion trends for men over 50

So, congratulations on successfully conquering your 30s and 40s! Now it’s time to learn how to dress in your fifties.

While dressing appropriately in your 50s and beyond might seem difficult, it is completely achievable. 50 is a powerful, positive number. You have a decent number of stories. You have witnessed events. You have even got your clothing largely put together and your appearance figured out. This is the ideal moment to apply all of your knowledge and investment components. A crucial aspect of learning how to dress well in your 50s is ensuring that your clothing fits properly. Examine your current rotation to ensure that everything fits comfortably. Not only should you feel comfortable in them, but you should also look nice in them. Check out these fashion tips for men over 50.

Perfect colour is the key

No need to eliminate colour from your wardrobe in any manner, shape or form, but if you do, opt for a more toned style. Black, light grey, forest green, camel, blue and navy. If you are feeling a little secretive a dash of dark red won't hurt. You should avoid anything that is very bright and bold. Avoid acidic colours, while pastels can be useful in some situations, there is no need to wear them all the time. Try to avoid graphics and patterns.

Suit yourself

Slim lapels and drainpipe suits are no longer in style. If you still have any in your closet, it’s time to get rid of them and replace them with something more appropriate for your adult body type. If you are unsure what to choose, opt for a slim, two-button jacket with larger lapels and well-tailored, flat-fronted pants. Give your ties a new look, and if you are feeling daring, swap out those old, boring dress shorts with a sleek roll-neck sweater.

Dress to impress

Instead of purchasing that Harley you have always promised yourself or that Porsche you have wanted since you were a teenager, use your 50s as an excuse to purchase all of the wardrobe items you have always wanted but have never been able to justify. Whether it’s a leather biker jacket, a cashmere pullover, a Prada or an entire rail of Savile Row suits, make sure they are in classic colours that will last you for many years. You undoubtedly already have a few watches in your collection, but this is the decade to finally acquire that elusive grail.

Good jeans

It's all about obtaining the best fit for your physique. There is a good probability that the pants you wore in your thirties won't fit you in your forties or fifties. If you still have shredded denim in your closet, it's time to chuck it out and buy in slick selvedge in a solid hue. These should be straight or slim fit and while we generally like darker jeans, the one exception is white jeans. In the summer, these look great on a senior man with a light sweater or blue blazer.

You still got it

Some guys fear as soon as they reach their midway birthday. Stop. Whether you are married or single for 20 or 30 years, the adage that men get better looking with age is accurate and you should take advantage of it whenever possible. Wrinkles and fine lines are very normal, but there's nothing wrong with refreshing your skincare routine with retinol, acids and other beneficial ingredients. If you are going grey, there are a few things you can do to make your silver strands even better, such as changing your hairdo and shampoo.

Age doesn’t always dictate how someone looks, the truth is that as you get older, your style should at least slightly alter.
