Facts about the Solar System that will Blow Your Mind

You must be aware that the Solar System is the gravitationally bound system of the sun and the objects orbiting around it. It includes the eight (earlier it was nine) planets, its moons, scattered dust and gas, comets, and asteroids rotating around the sun. Here is a list of a few amazing facts about the solar system that will blow your mind..

It includes the eight (earlier it was nine) planets, its moons, scattered dust and gas, comets, and asteroids rotating around the sun. Here is a list of a few amazing facts about the solar system that will blow your mind..

The Hottest Planet is Venus

The hottest planet in the solar system is not Mercury, the planet nearer to the sun but Venus which is far away from the sun compared to Mercury, the nearest planet to the sun.

Since Mercury is the near planet to the sun, many people would assume that Mercury is the hottest planet. But it’s not the case here as the hottest planet in the solar system is Venus, the second nearer to the sun. It’s because Mercury has no atmosphere, no warming blanket to store the sun’s heat while Venus, is covered with an unpredictably thick atmosphere and is a hundred percent thicker than Earth’s atmosphere and it holds the Sun’s heat making Venus the hottest planet.

Solar System is approximately 4.6 Billion years old

If you are wondering how old is our solar system then the answer is around 4.6 billion years old.

The solar system was formed approximately 4.6 billion years ago when a vast cloud of dust and gas which the scientists named the solar nebula collapsed because of a nearby exploding star, known as supernova. When the solar nebula collapsed, the sun, planets, and other things started to take shape from the dust and gas which later became our solar system. The main technique the scientists use to know the age of the solar system is by researching the Meteorites, or parts of space rocks that are felt on Earth.

Pluto is smaller in diameter than the U.S.A

Pluto was earlier considered a planet but its status is changed to dwarf planet.

Pluto is the farthest object from the sun in our solar system and since the time scientists discovered Pluto, it didn’t rotate around the sun even once because of this, its status was changed from planet to dwarf planet. Another reason for the change in its status is its size which is very small, less than half the width of the U.S.

The Moon has no atmosphere

The Moon does not have an atmosphere, which implies that no winds are flowing on its surface.

Moon does not have wind, making it devoid of atmosphere. It means if you keep something on the moon, its position won’t change for many years since there is no wind to change its position. The only things that make an impact on the moon are the meteors and asteroids falling here from outer space.
