Everything You Need To Know About The Nun 2, The Upcoming Conjuring Spin-off

The sequel of The Nun is coming to the theaters on September 8, 2023—and Valak—the hell-bound demon, is returning to haunt us all.

The second installment of The Nun is a part of the Conjuring universe—which has been entertaining and haunting fans of the horror genre since 2013—shedding light on the careers and lives of Ed and Lorraine Warren, the famous demonologists.

Since the advent of the Conjuring Universe, the audience has enjoyed a plethora of spin-offs—one of them depicts the horrifying tales of Annabelle, a possessed doll. Apart from the Annabelle spin-offs, the audience is familiar with the Nun spin-offs, based on the encounter of the Warrens with Valak—a phantom nun from the '70s. Valak was involved in a romantic affair with a monk, and to punish her for her deed, she was buried alive in the walls of the church, and she haunts the premises to seek vengeance. What the Trailer Reveals

On July 6, Warner Bros dropped the official trailer, which teases that The Nun 2 will be replete with hair-raising scenes and reveal a new narrative of Valak, the demonic nun. The trailer of The Nun 2 shows a girl in a convent—who claims to be haunted by a strange entity—and the following footage reveals that the Nun does not spare even little children, as the demonic entity fiercely grabs the young girl's head.

Plot

Akela Cooper has written the script for The Nun 2, and the film is helmed by director Michael Chaves. The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It and The Curse Of La Llorona—both films from the Conjuring franchise were directed by Chaves.

James Wan, the producer, offered more details about the role of Frenchie in the film. Wan further revealed that Frenchie would be seen working as a groundskeeper at a Catholic school. His relationship with Sister Irene is platonic, but she is willing to go to any lengths to help him.

A series of murders have been allegedly perpetrated by Valak—and she needs to be sent back to hell. The second installment of The Nun will most likely focus on Irene's conflict between vanquishing the devil residing within Frenchie and her immense love for him.

Will The Nun II Be in Theaters?

Sadly for people who prefer enjoying horror movies from the comfort of their homes—to be precise, with all the lights on —the second installment of The Nun will premiere in theaters only. Likely, the movie will eventually become available for online streaming. But as of now, we do not know where The Nun 2 will land apart from theaters.

The Nun 2 will premiere on September 8, 2023—and will exclusively be available in theaters. The sequel is releasing exactly five years after the first film, The Nun (2018).

Cast

In all the spin-offs and their installments—within The Conjuring Universe—you can witness fresh faces because every film of the franchise occurs in varying eras and depicts different possessions or hauntings of new characters. The cast of The Nun 2 will carry forward this trend to some extent.

However, some actors will return from the first film. Bonnie Aarons is playing Valak again, and to fight her, Taissa Farmiga will also return to play Sister Irene. Jonas Bloquet will also reappear on screen as Frenchie, as claimed by James Wan.

One of the most notable fresh faces that has been cast in the movie is Storm Reid—and she is playing a major role.
