Dogs are the most adorable beings who are 100% loyal to their humans. But when it comes to humans adopting a dog, a lot of people aren’t mindful of the dog’s health, their adaptability, and their health. Below are some breeds that won’t have the above problems in the subcontinental climate.
Indian Pariah- full desi breed
Born and brought up in India itself, this breed is the ultimate when it comes to the Indian climate, people, food, and overall environment. You might think that every street dog is of Pariah breed but that’s not the case. They are easily trainable and very intelligent. This is why they are also used as police or guard dogs. Another plus point is, they have very few health conditions and require the least maintenance.
Golden retriever- the friendliest of them all
Due to their caring nature, Golden retrievers are considered to be a great option for Indian families. They are great with kids and smaller animals like cats or rodents. The only thing that requires a lot of maintenance is their coat. They shed a lot! You will have to regularly get them groomed due to their long, double coat. They also need to be given good quality food to maintain their distinctive golden coat.
Dalmatian- Charmingly sleek and silly
You must have come across this breed from the beloved movie “101 dalmatians”. As charming as they were portrayed in the movie, historically these spotted cuties were trained to guard the caravans against the bandits and have also been known to hunt and perform in circuses. They are sturdy, large, and come with good stamina and endurance to even chase off an intruder. Another thing is that they hate to be on a leash and you can trust their intelligence for functioning independently.
Beagle- cute explorers
This compact breed is one of the favorites across the world. Especially in India, they are very much liked due to their adaptability to the hot climate, their extremely friendly nature, and a really good sense of smell. Beagles are also used as sniffer dogs and are great at hunting and exploring on their own. So keep in mind to keep them on a leash while walking them outside, or else they might wander off to places unknown!
Indian Spitz- Smart and playful
Do you remember the beloved dog “Tuffy” in the blockbuster Hum Aapke Hain Kaun? Sorry to break your bubble, but that was not a Pomeranian. Indian Spitz is a little bigger and has a thin coat than the former breed. This is the reason they easily adjust to small houses and are accustomed to the hot Indian summers too. They are very active, playful, and most importantly quick learners- which is why they have been chosen as trick dogs over the years.
Other breeds that are suitable for India are Dobermann, German Shepherd, Pug, and a few more.
