For every different type of vehicle, there are different types of tyres are available. Different tyres are mounted in different vehicles according to its specifications. Passenger tyres are the most common tyres that are used all over the world whereas 44 tyres are highly specialized tyres.
Off-roadtyres are designed in a way that retains grip on mud, grass, snow and dirt. If you take a closer look at these tyres, you will notice that the tread is deep and there is a large gap in between the tread pattern. Even in adverse conditions, this type of tread pattern allows the tyres to retain friction with the ground. The deeper tread depth of the tyre is hard to clog up. In off- road tyres, more rubber is in contact with the ground than any regular tyre. As the gaps in the tread pattern are even full of mud, there is enough rubber to contact with the ground and have friction to move the vehicle.
There are two major disadvantages of 4×4 tyres -
When off-road tyres are driving on the normal road surface, they create much more friction than needed. They will worn out much faster than a normal tyre designed for a normal road.
Off-road tyres to the excess consumption of fuel. They create so much friction on the normal road that it slows the speed of the vehicle. When the friction between the vehicle and road is high, the harder the engine will need to work to move the vehicle forward within the same speed. Hence, excess consumption of the fuel.
You must have heard a loud noise of rubber getting in contact with the road. This is the sound is of rubber being worn away by the road surface. When the tyres are used on a correct surface road, they do not make a sound and they will not wear as quickly as during their incorrect use.
A General Difference Between Passenger And 4×4 Tyre
There is a minor difference between the two. In the case of a 4×4 tyre, the tread is deeper and contains a large gap in between the tread pattern than a normal tyre. This type of design helps to maintain that enough rubber remains in contact with the road. If a normal tyre is used instead of a 4×4 tyre on the muddy surface, the regular tyre will become clogged and lose friction with the ground. With its wheels spinning to no avail as the normal road tyresstuck in the mud. It is up to you which tyre you want to buy but always read the vehicle manual before making such decisions.
