Hornbill
One of the biggest festivals in Nagaland, the Hornbill Festival, is usually celebrated in the month of December. The Kisama village is mainly known for celebrating this festival. The main attraction of the festival is that it has never been an ancient festival, rather, it started in 2000, only to make Nagaland popular among the tourists. Since then, the festival has been popular among tourists, and their culture and traditions have become popular worldwide with people visiting the state, the rock concerts, and dance performances, all in all, it became a famous festival.
Tsukheneye
The Chakhesang tribe of Nagaland is commonly known to hold this festival in the Phek district. The festival occurs in March and is done to celebrate the harvest of their crops. It has a four-day long festival, wherein the farmers, after sacrificing the rooster take a ritualistic bath in the river for purifying themselves. It is believed that following this ritual will help them to make a successful harvest in the coming year.
Naknyulem
A fun-filled festival, Naknyulem is generally celebrated by the Chang tribe of Nagaland. The festival promotes both friendship and culture in the tribe. You will find the festival filled with dance, song and games, like long jump, high jump, tug-of-war, and many more. July is the month in which this festival is held up by the tribe, and people visiting during this time of the year are surely going to have a gala time.
Mimkut
If you want to see the Mimkut festival in Nagaland, you must visit the state somewhere during January. The festival is celebrated by the Kuki tribe in Nagaland. In this festival, all they do is please “Thilha”, the demon, and thus it can be called a religious festival. You will be amused to see some peculiar rituals during this festival. Like the sacrifice of a fowl to please the demon. They believe that demon visits them during this month, which is why they must celebrate the festival.
