Let’s take a look at which type of rice is better for you.
Rice is one of the staple foods in India and most varieties of rice are filled with carbs & low protein levels. However, brown rice is actually termed as whole grain as compared to white rice because the former has almost all the parts of the grain like endosperm and fibrous bran. In fact, in terms of nutrition, it is considered to have a lot more advantage over white rice.
The difference between white and brown rice is that while 100 grams of brown rice provides you with 1.8 grams of fibre but the same amount of white rice is said to provide you with only 0.4 grams of fibre. Hence, brown rice is a healthier version. It contains three major ingredients:
Bran
It is the protective layer over the rice which actually has minerals, fibre and antioxidants.
Endosperm
It is the inside layer under the bran and it is full of nutrients and other natural grain components.
Germ
The germ is found at its core and is usually rich in carbs.
Brown rice is actually unpolished. Albeit, in case of white rice, it loses all of its important nutrients and carbs because it is polished. Firstly, brown rice is less consumed than that of white rice and you can have it in order to lose weight. If you take healthy options like ragi, lemon and green tea in your diet, this should be added too.
It provides you with 80% of the amount of manganese we need on a daily basis and also aids in creating fatty acids that lead to healthy cholesterol. It is also rich in Selenium, which is a rich mineral that helps in reducing the risk of cancer and other heart diseases. Brown rice also has healthy oils that can help in reducing low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, which in turn aids in losing weight. It also has a lot of fibre and helps in keeping bowel movements smooth.
As compared to white rice, brown rice also is a rich source of antioxidants, which are necessary to get rid of toxins from your body. It also stabilizes blood sugar levels while on the other hand, white rice can have high risks of developing diabetes.
So when you are choosing your rice next time, make sure it is brown.
