Bollywood celebs have enthralled the International film community time and again with their talent and passion for their art. Here are a few names who went on to win awards

In Bollywood, often described as one of the biggest film industry in the world, several celebs have stepped abroad and made the country proud by earning accolades in the International stage. These celebs have made it clear that it takes raw, undiluted talent and runaway passion to be where you are. If you are a film fanatic, you will definitely know a lot about these celebs, actors, filmmakers, musicians and their works but not everyone knows about how their skills earned international recognition.

Here are Bollywood actors who won awards at international film festivals for their valuable work and contribution to the cinema community.

Satyajit Ray

Oscars for the first time happened to Indian cinema when Satyajit Ray was honoured with Lifetime Achievement in 1992. Ray’s first film, Pather Panchali won him 11 International prizes. He was also conferred an honorary Doctorate by the prestigious Oxford University. Only Charlie Chaplin has received the honour before him.

AR Rahman

AR Rahman is one of the most versatile musicians the world ever had. Often referred to as the ‘Mozart of India’ for his command on the craft.

Rahman’s score, which captured the rhythm of the frenzied life in the city of dreams, Mumbai in Slumdog Millionaire, dominated the Hollywood awards circuit in 2009. He bagged British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Award for best music as well as a Golden Globe award and an Academy Award for the best score. He also won the Academy Award for best song for “Jai Ho”.

Priyanka Chopra

A UNICEF brand ambassador Priyanka is a renowned name worldwide. Her stepping stone to Hollywood, the Quantico series helped her bag the People’s Choice Award for Favourite Actress in a New TV Series. Priyanka also became the first South Asian actress to grab a People’s Choice Award.

Irrfan Khan

A powerhouse of talent, Irrfan’s every work speaks for his dedication towards his art. The actor was a part of several critically acclaimed Hollywood projects like Life of Pi, The Namesake, Jurassic world, Inferno, to name a few. His role in The Lunchbox won him the Best Actor award in Asian Film Awards and Dubai International Film Festival in 2014.

Naseeruddin Shah

Another fireball of talent, Naseeruddin Shah has been into acting for 45 years and yet is often referred to as an underutilised talent. The Manthan actor received the Best Actor Award at the Washington DC South Asian Film Festival Awards 2016 as well. The Dubai Film Festival recognised him with a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015.
