Asian Characters from Marvel Comics Most of Us Are Not Aware of (Part II)

The characters of the Marvel universe consist of people from almost all ethnicities, and we have already seen Shang-Chi, an Asian character in an MCU film.

Marvel comic books are quite famous across the globe, and they became more famous after the arrival of Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movies. Continuing from the first part of the story, here are a few more Asian characters from Marvel comics.

Nico Minoru

Nico Minoru is a Japanese-American teenage girl with extraordinary superpowers. She is the daughter of the dark witch and wizard Tina and Robert Minoru. Both of them are members of the supervillain organization The Pride.

Nico Minoru was created by Adrian Alphona and Brian K. Vaughan in 2003. She first appeared as an important character in Marvel’s Runaways series. She got her powers from her parents, especially from her mom who was a witch. She ran away from her parents when she was in school with five friends whose parents were also members of The Pride. Also what makes her unique is that she is one of the very few bisexual Asian characters in comic books.

Koi Boi

Koi Boi was created in 2015 by writers Erica Henderson and Ryan North. Koi Boi is half Japanese and half American.

Koi Boi is a Japanese American superhero is first got introduced in the Marvel comic book series ‘The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #2’. He was born with the ability to breathe underwater, can swim very fast, and he can also talk with fishes. His real name is Ken Shiga, and he takes up the personality of Koi Boi while fighting the villains. He is majoring in Computer Science at the Empire State University in New York, and one of his co-students is Doreen Green, also known as the Squirrel Girl.

Silk

Cindy Moon, better known as Silk, is a Korean-American superhero and is the female version of Spider-Man.

Silk first appeared in ‘Amazing Spider-Man #1’ in 2014, and she was created by the writers duo Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos. She gets her superpower exactly the way Peter Parker got his powers and became Spider-Man. She was bitten by the radioactive spider in her ankle and she developed her own superpowers. But unlike Peter Parker, she can’t hide her superpowers from others and she can’t control her powers the way Peter Parker can. She is of half Korean and half American descent.

Silver Samurai

Silver Samurai is a sword-yielding supervillain and he mostly appears in comics as the arch nemesis of Wolverine.

As the name suggests, Silver Samurai is of Japanese origin and the only supervillain on this list. He is one of the main villains of Wolverine, and often fought with him as the bodyguard of the other villain Viper.

Silver Samurai is also a mercenary and mutant, who uses his powers to charge his katana and his samurai-styled armour is made of silvery metal. Even though he spent most of his life as a villain, he in due course transformed into positi
