90s Bollywood hits: Movies that never get old

Here’s to the Rahuls, Anjalis, Surajs, Prems, and Poojas. We miss you guys!

Those 90s classics are just pure gold. The music, the romances, the outfits, the storylines—everything about them is magic. Even now, you’ll watch them for old times' sake because they bring back all the good feelings! Bollywood from the 90s is like a time machine, taking you straight back to your childhood. That decade gave us some timeless gems that hit you right in the nostalgia. From magical love stories to laugh-out-loud comedies, these movies were the backdrop to our growing-up years. We’ve put together a list of these classic films for you. After this read, we bet you’ll be feeling all nostalgic and itching to rewatch your favourite 90s classics!

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai

We’ve all asked ourselves: What makes "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai" such a fan favorite? It's that 90s magic! From Rahul’s ‘cool’ necklace, friendship bands, and basketball games to Mrs. Briganza, tomboy Anjali, and campus queen Tina—just mentioning the movie brings back endless memories. Released in 1998, it gave us iconic lines like "Pyar dosti hai" and "Tussi jaa rhe ho tussi na jao." The movie covers college romance, friendship, Kajol’s glow-up, and a daughter matchmaking for her dad. Decades later, this Karan Johar classic is still cherished. Rahul and Anjali will never get old!

Jab Pyaar Kissi Se Hota Hai

Remember when everyone thought Salman Khan was the world’s most handsome hunk? This movie explains why. Salman plays the charming Sooraj, who’s a bit of a player until he finds true love with Komal, played by Twinkle Khanna. Their chemistry? Off the charts! And those songs—“O O Jaana Na Jaana,” “Madhosh Dil Ki Dhadkan,” and “Pehli Pehli Baar Jab Pyaar”—total classics. Sure, there are tonnes of 90s Salman flicks, but this one doesn’t get enough love. It’s a shame we didn’t get to see more of this duo!

Andaz Apna Apna

Oh, you knew this one would make the list! Just hearing "Teja main hu, mark yaha hai" is enough to bring "Andaz Apna Apna" right to mind. Amar and Prem (Aamir Khan and Salman Khan) are comedy gold, and just mentioning their names will give you a laugh attack. Released in 1994, this Rajkumar Santoshi classic has two middle-class guys competing to win over a millionaire's daughter. Their attempts at ‘sam-dam-dand-bhedh’ get hilariously chaotic when they cross paths with the gangster Teja. And let's be real—songs like “Do Mastane,” “Ye Raat Aur Ye Doori,” and “Ello Ello” instantly brighten our mood. We’re still holding out hope for a sequel, so if any of the makers are listening, get on it!

Baazigar

This film totally redefined Shah Rukh Khan for us! "Baazigar," released in 1993, was a big shift from his usual romantic roles. Instead of playing the lover boy, SRK took on a dark, suspenseful role. Directed by Abbas-Mustaan, it’s all about revenge, with SRK’s character first winning over and then taking out the elder daughter of his enemy. Then, he goes after the younger one. The plot twists and music make it unforgettable and totally impactful.

Hum Hai Rahi Pyaar Ke

This film is an absolute must-have on this list! It’s a perfect mix of romance, comedy, and love—basically, a masterclass in living, loving, and laughing. Juhi Chawla’s role as Vyanjti is a total scene-stealer, while Aamir Khan plays Rahul, a caretaker juggling life at a garment factory and wrangling his mischievous nephew and niece. When Vyanjti escapes her rich dad and ends up with the kids, the fun really begins. The title track is a classic, and "Yunhi Kat Jayega Safar" is the ultimate pickme-up.

We definitely can’t cover all the 90s classics in one go, but we bet this list has you feeling all kinds of nostalgic! We 90s kids will always miss those simpler, sweeter times and the movies that made them special. So, why not carve out some time this weekend to rewatch your favourite 90s flick? It’ll surely be worth it!
