Your child’s school teaches them reading and writing. But what about other life skills?
Kids start building life skills almost from birth, with each developmental milestone laying the foundation for the future. While schools teach children the basics of academics like reading, writing and arithmetic, many essential life skills need to be built at home.
But enrolling them in different activity classes is not enough either. You need to start building those foundation stones right at home for the future success of the child.
Here we give you some of those life skills.
Self-defence
Safety is of the utmost importance in today’s world. Thus, basic self-defence is essential for both your daughter and son. It will teach your child not only to be more independent but also more confident. Many schools invest in teaching children self-defence. But if your child’s school does not, then hire a teacher or send them to a class.
Knowing how to be alone
If your child cannot be alone with his or her thoughts, away from family and friends, then there is a high chance they will grow up to have serious anxiety issues when left on their own. To ensure it doesn’t happen, you need to devote a corner in the house and make it the “quiet zone”. You can put a chair, table and a few calming toys and activities. While they are learning how to enjoy alone time, you also get a break from them.
Importance of money
This life skill could make or break your child’s future. Teaching your kid the importance of money includes managing money, investing in future goals and ways to handle debt. When your child starts understanding things, you can have conversations with them about money. And when they get a bit older, let them manage their own money for hands-on education.
Managing time
As adults, we always feel like 24 hours in a day are less as compared to the amount of work. But instilling a habit of managing time in your children will help them claim responsibility. You can do this by getting them an alarm clock so that they get up for school on their own as opposed to you waking them up. Give them a planner so that they can keep track of their school and extra-curricular work.
All the above life skills will pave the path for a successful future for your child.
