India also had a number of world-famous magicians, who once had immense fame, but slowly the journey of magic saw a downfall with the emergence of technology. P.C Sorcar

Magic and P.C Sorcar are like inseparable entities. In India every second person knows that when it comes to magic, P.C Sorcar is the name that pops up in our mind. He was the famous magician of India in the 1960's, and became famous with his television shows. Belonging from a Bengali culture, Sorcar picked magic as a profession just after he completed his graduation. He performed across countries in his show named Indrajal. People in India and abroad were left astound by his magic tricks. Such was his magic all over the world, that a postal stamp was released on his name by the government of India, to bestow honour upon the great magician.

Ashok Bhandari

At his young age, Ashok Bhandari worked as a detergent manufacturer. Later when he shifted to Varanasi, he showed interest in magics and illusions. Slowly with time, he started performing magic tricks at schools, in workshops, and received much fame eventually.

O.P Sharma

A predominant magician of the country, O.P Sharma performs magics mainly in the northern states of India. Regarded as Jadugar by his audience, he cannot be missed out from the list of best magicians in the country. This magician gained much popularity when he suddenly made a building in Jodhpur disappear. That was the curve in his career that made him present such disappearing magic tricks, enjoyed by the audience. He now performs magic with his son, O.P Sharma Junior.

Prahlad Acharya

Acharya is one of India’s prominent magicians hailing from Karnataka. He is also a well-known stunt performer and escapologist, mainly regarded by the media as Houdini.  He performs his magics under the name ‘Maya Jadoo’, and holds great reputation as a ventriloquist as well as a shadow play artist. Some of his famous magic tricks include, his escape within 10 seconds from the central jail of Bangalore, vanishing from the Jog Falls, etc.
