2022 Yamaha Vino: New Skin, Old Power Unit
Unlike the previous-gen iteration, the new-age Vino flaunts zero chrome shade here and there. However, in our opinion, the new skins are refreshing
Since 1997, the Vino has been a famous scooter in the land of Japan. The scooter is popular for its small engine, less power, easy manoeuvrability and affordability. However, over the years, the scooter has received no significant update. In 2022, Yamaha has brought a new avatar of the Vino and to everyone’s surprise, the new version is identical to the 2021 iteration except for the new colour tones. In the following paragraphs, we have drafted more details about the 2022 Yamaha Vino.
The Vino’s powertrain is shared with a Honda scooter
The Vino is affordable because it is not likegeneral scooters with massive 100cc and 150cc engines. The Vino’s power unit is a 50cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, petrol-driven engine that dishes out a peak power of 4.5PS and a maximum torque 4.1Nm. Interestingly, Vino shares its motor with Honda’s Metropolitan scooter. In fact, Honda manufactures the engine whereas Yamaha derives it from Honda. The two Japanese agreed to use the same engine on their scooters so that they can keep the cost of the Metropolitan and Vino in check.
Over two colour options
Yamaha has introduced the Vino in Matte Armoured Green Metallic and Bonnie Blue shades. The Bonnie Blue colour scheme is reminiscent of Vespa’s iconic pastel blue variant. Also, it is more subtle, with a combination of an off-white colour tone and a brown-coloured leather seat. On the other hand, the Green Metallic paint scheme makes the mini-scooter look like an army vehicle. Apart from these two colour options, one can also purchase the 2021 iteration in Fighting Red, Graphite Black, Version Beige, and Mahogany Brown Metallic paint schemes (solid colours).
The Vino is a conventional scooter
Since the Vino is an affordable conventional scooter, it offers little pieces of modern-day technology. The scooter features drum brakes on both ends (combi-braking system) and the suspension duties of the motorcycle are handled by conventional telescopic forks at the front whereas the rear features a monoshock unit. To save fuel, the scooter is armed with an idle start-stop feature whereas, in the lighting department, the scooter is armed with no LED lighting. Last but not the least, the Vino is up for sale at JPY 2,03,500 (INR 1.33 lakh).
