The ultimate Hollywood achievement award –winning an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony (an EGOT)
The dream of winning all four awards in American Entertainment awards might have been started by Miami Vice’s Philip Michael Thomas, and many have gotten close to it since, but only a selected group of 16 people have ever achieved it.
There are actors, producers, directors and composers who have been awarded all four prestigious awards – an Emmy, A Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony – making them an EGOT winner. Robert Lopez is the only person to have a double EGOT.
Here is a list of people who have are all EGOT winners.
Richard Rodgers – First individual to win and EGOT. Won an Emmy for his music composition for Winston Churchill: Valiant Years, two Grammy awards, an Oscar for Best Song in State Fair and multiple Tony Awards. EGOT status earned in 1962.
Helen Hayes – The actress won Primetime Emmy for Schlitz Playhouse of Stars, Grammy for Great American Documents along with two Oscars and Tony Awards. EGOT status earned in 1977.
Rita Moreno – Moreno earned the Triple Crown of Acting – earning Oscar, Tony and Emmy awards for acting and a Grammy for Best Recording for Children for The Electric Company.
Audrey Hepburn – The actress was awarded the EGOT status posthumously after her Grammy win in 1994 for Best Spoken Word Album for Children, Audrey Hepburn’s Enchanted Tales. She had already won an Oscar and a Tony in 1954 and an Emmy in 1993 for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Gardens of the World with Audrey Hepburn.
Whoopi Goldberg – Whoopi Goldberg won her first Grammy in 1985. Next was an Oscar for Ghost. It was in 2002 that she got awarded with an Emmy for hosting Beyond Tara: The Extraordinary Life of Hattie McDaniel and a Tony as co-producer of Thoroughly Modern Millie, which won Best Musical.
Robert Lopez – The fastest member to have won the EGOT title, Robert Lopez won a Tony award sin 2004 for Best Score for Avenue Q. In a matter of 10 years, he earned two Emmys, one shared Grammy for The Book of Mormon, and finally with an Oscar for Best Original Song for Frozen’s Let It Go in 2014.
Andrew Llyod Webber, John Legend and Tim Rice: The EGOT club added three new members to the list in 2018. The Emmy Win of Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert for Outstanding Variety Show (Live) made the producers Webber, Legend and Rice the official members of EGOT. A monumental moment as Legend was the youngest and the first black person to have won the EGOT title.
